When did you begin creating art?
I can't remember when I began, but surely very young. I can see how my youthful curiosity fed my artistic nature and vice versa. Most likely sub-one.
What mediums, software, or equipment do you use?
I frankly indulge in any mediums that strike me. I stick to
traditionalist means–painting and drawing for the most part because of their accessibility–but like to expand and do a little digital work, usually Illustrator CS2 and the occasional stint in photography.
What's been the biggest highlight of your artistic career to date?
My career is the epitome of the struggling artist. I don't have a
highlight per se, but I do teach down at the community center and my comic/cartoon classes are the most popular there than any classes they've had in decades.
Do you create other styles of art, other than dark art?
I like to dabble a lot in abstract forms, painting or otherwise. I
would be a realist but I can't stand to sit still and copy the life
that is before me. I wish I had to patience to though. I much more often draw from my mind, although on occasion have done surrealist/impressionistic work.
Have you had any formal artistic training?
None, but would sincerely like to.
Who are your artistic inspirations?
Ashley Wood, Salvador Dali. Other random images/paintings/etc. as they catch my eye.
When you're not creating art, what are you spending your time on?
My writing. I'm a writer and have several graphic novels in the works, as well as two separate other novels, one autobiographical and one a catalog of literary images. I like to play guitar, Hendrix style, and have taught myself a few licks, but I mostly like to make up my own songs.
What do you say to the people who say that dark art is nothing more than shock value and will never be found in a credible gallery or art collection?
I say that there is an emotive, and an attraction to dark art in any regard. Even if one doesn't believe in the credibility of the theory of gravity he's still going to fall if he jumps from his balcony.
Any plans for the future?
Ameliorate my living conditions, take some time off to revamp my thinking process and hopefully renew my interest in becoming an even better artist. Then publish a few books and build a house in relative obscurity in the mountains.
