Tanya Simpson

I'm a photographer based in Edinburgh, Scotland and am obsessed with the darker side of life.  I specialise in horror/SFX and conceptual art and have recently branched out into fetish and alternative fashion photography.  I use a Canon 350D and lots of fake blood, sharp things and dirty things to create my more horrific works and aim to be as disturbing as possible - if people respond to my art with looks of disgust, then I'm happy.  There's no point in creating art if it doesn't get a strong reaction.

I am inspired by horror movies, nightmares, other people's phobias, things that make my skin crawl and anything silver and shiny.  It's an odd combination, but it seems to flick a switch in my brain that pushes me into 'create' mode.   I have always adored totally over-the-top special effects and do my best to inject a bit of  gratuitous horror into my art wherever possible.  A lot of people take dark art very seriously, but I don't think I'll ever stop seeing the fun side of making truly revolting pictures.
